Leading Innovation and Change
Our learning is represented by the model below. At each stage there is a learning cycle for you and your team to explore. The learning is designed to be flexible so that you can choose what is relevant to your context. Click to open a larger picture.
Learning Pathways
Key features of the learning:
- There is a cycle of learning to be completed within each stage (see above diagram)
- The learning can be undertaken by individuals or teams
- Active learning partnerships are recommended as they make learning more effective and enjoyable
- The learning is flexible so that you can complete those aspects that are relevant to you personally
- You can customise it to your school context
How is the learning organised?
Within each stage there is a learning pathway:
- You will be given a Challenge to get you started
- There is a set of questions to which you should respond. These are to draw out your initial thinking. You will note your thoughts in 'My Journal'
- You will be presented with some learning in Resources that can be used at any point in the program
- Following your learning, research and reflection you will have an opportunity to revisit the questions in step 2 and to revise your thinking in 'My journal'
- There will be a Link to the next stage of the cycle
What could a 21st century learning change program look like?
Real change is never a one off or a quick fix. Here is one example of how you might approach a major change program:
Create the vision for 21st century learning
Planning the school journey to implement 21st century learning in every classroom
Implement the plan in all classrooms and learning spaces
Assess the impact of the 21st century learning strategies
Next cycle/s of learning planned and implemented

Involving the whole school is creating an awareness of how and why things could be better if 21st century learning was happening in every classroom
Completing a structured plan for implementation including a communication strategy
Identifying the initial team and a professional learning strategy to support the implementation e.g. peer coaching or instructional rounds Ensuring all team members undertake professional learning in strategy together to build team belonging, shared knowledge, practical implementation skills and understandings Do it. Working in collaborative teams in classrooms and learning spaces to implement innovation
Share openly with whole school and enable others to be involved as interest and enthusiasm for 21st century learning grows Undertaking an open assessment of what was achieved and identifying the options for the next steps in implementing 21st century learning
Implementing the second and future learning cycles with a whole school emphasis on re assessing and acting. The final cycle will have a strong evaluation component.
